A found object with no identifiable function is presented as a seemingly calibrated instrument. It is held in equilibrium on a 3D-printed base and support. Beneath its circular metal plate lies a thin, identical disc coated with paraffin. The diameter and alignment are exact, yet no physical contact occurs.
The configuration suggests a causal relation: as if the metal plate produced, registered, or affected the paraffin disc. At the same time, any actual interaction is excluded. The work constructs a pseudo-function and an indeterminate causality, inviting the viewer to assign meaning and operation to a system that ultimately refuses both.
The object is not defined but activated as a carrier of expectation. The perceived relation between the two circles is convincing yet unverifiable; an effect without locatable cause.
